The Environmental Impact Assessment of the project for the construction of power units 5 and 6 at the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant has commenced. It is planned to utilize Westinghouse Electric Company’s AR1000 reactors for further operation and electricity generation.
Neighboring countries, whose environment may potentially be affected by negative transboundary impacts, include Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Moldova, and Austria. Among all types of transboundary impacts, only radiation can be deemed significant. This implies that Ukraine, as the party of origin, can engage in consultations with the countries regarding the transboundary impact of the planned activity and measures to reduce or eliminate its effects.
