First demonstration solar collectors are installed in Manevychi rayon, Volyn oblast!
December 21, 2011
On December 20th 2011 at the Rayon State Administration building in Manevychi, the Rivne City Youth Non-Profit organization “Ecoclub” demonstrated to local citizens first solar collectors for heating water installed recently by their neighbors throughout the Rayon in the frame of the project “Switch to sun – live with comfort”.
During the training held in October in the port city of Odessa solar collectors’ constructors trained the technology used and technical requirements needed to construct the solar collector. After the training they masterly implemented the task for further certification, e.i. they themselves installed solar collectors in own households.
The Constructors enthusiastically shared their experience in solar collector construction and their opinions concerning this technology for solar energy use.
“I was interested in the benefits that solar collector technology could bring to ordinary households when Ecoclub suggested the idea a few months ago. And during the training in Odessa, everyone was convinced that the system really works. After half an hour, the sun had successfully heated water to 70oC in the solar collector’s system, installed during the training. This means that within a few hours the sun could fully heat the tank of water” – shared one of the solar constructors Petro Sydoruk.
Constructors were financially supported by the project, which covered the cost of materials needed for the solar collectors. This support covered a half of basic cost of solar installation and estimated as 1200 UAH. Other part of the cost was covered by the solar collectors constructors own contribution. The total cost of demo solar collectors is estimated at 2500 – 4000 UAH, depending on the materials used and if any additional labor is required.
During presentation Oksana Maiboroda, the Ecoclub representative, told about the activities implemented currently in Manevychi rayon and future plans and further perspectives of the project. Oksana explained to the participants that for the project to be successfully implemented, besides the installation of solar collectors’, it is vital to monitor and analyze data from the collectors in summer and winter to make sure that they are operating efficiently. And also it is important to collect baseline data about the local families’ energy consumption.
Olha Lyashchuk, Ecoclub Energy Program coordinator, explained to the event participants how collected data on energy consumption will be used and how to fill in the questionnaires on energy consumption. The meeting participants filled in about 20 Questionnaires making their own contribution to the successful implementation of the project. Ecoclub invites Manevychi rayon local citizens to fill in Questionnaire on energy consumption and send it to Ecoclub by e-mail or regular mail: P.o. Box, 73, Rivne, 33023.
The Head of the Manevychi Rayon State Administration and his Deputy, the Head of the Manevychi Rayon Council, other Administration and Media representatives and Manevychi rayon citizens participated in the event. More than 40 participants visited the presentation.
The project “Switch to sun – live with comfort” is being implemented in Ukraine and Georgia with financial support from the European Union and coordinated by the International network “Women in Europe for a Common Future” (WECF, The Netherlands).
